Status Rights typically refer to birth registration, acquisition of citizenship, residence registration, and personal documentation and involve three subtopics: legally invisible persons, nationality and statelessness, and residence. The Serbian Constitution guarantees the right to be recognized as a person before the law and to be registered in the birth registries. It also states that no citizen of Serbia can be deprived of citizenship. Additionally, any child born in Serbia shall have the right to citizenship unless conditions have been met to acquire the citizenship of another state. The basic way of acquiring Serbian citizenship is through the citizenship of the parents. Also, a child born or found in the territory of Serbia acquires Serbian citizenship by birth if both parents are unknown or of unknown citizenship or do not have citizenship or if the child would otherwise be stateless.
